Girls should be at least 14 to 15 years old, boys between 16 and 17 to do nosebleeds because the structures of the face change with growth and it is preferable to wait for the full development of the face before the surgery. Younger patients should be advised carefully to understand the reasons that motivate the desire to change their nose. It is important to understand that the change must satisfy the patient, avoiding influences from relatives and friends. The upper age limit for rhinoplasty depends on the health and psychological motivations that trigger the need for change. A classic motif for rhinoplasty in older patients is the rejuvenating effect that the surgery produces by correcting a sagging tip, when done along with the facelift. Respiratory problems can be corrected at the same time. A computer consultation is the best way to gauge the change that can be achieved through plastic nose surgery; if the nose has a "ball" on the tip, if it is too large for the face, if it has a high profile bone, if it is too broad, crooked or asymmetrical.

Objective

Remodel the nose, reducing or increasing its size, removing a "calf" by changing the shape of the tip or the back, thinning the nostrils, or changing the angle between the nose and upper lip. Surgery may also improve breathing problems. The skin type and size and shape of the nose compared to the face are studied. Sometimes chin correction can be done together to improve the balance of the face.

Anesthesia

Local sedation or general anesthesia, as needed for each case

Incisions and technique:

Duração da operação

1 to 2 hours

The result of rhinoplasty varies according to various factors, skin type, nose shape, etc. The results are individual and should not be compared with others. The nose can be increased or decreased, the nostrils can be tuned, the tip remodeled and elevated. Usually all incisions are inside the nose. To reduce the base and the nostrils, small incisions are necessary at the base of the nostrils, hidden by the natural fold. Sometimes a small incision is made in the columella, the tissue that separates the nostrils. This can be done in difficult cases or in re-operations. Through the incisions, it treats the bones, straightening and thinning the nose. To increase the nose you can use cartilage of the septum or ear.

In/Outpatient

Usually outpatient.

Sensitivity

There will be temporary pain and tenderness, swelling, a change in nipple sensation and possibly bruising for two to three weeks.

Recovery

Bruising around the eyes and cheeks may appear three days after surgery and disappear within two weeks. Corrective makeup can be used to cover the area with purple spots. Most of the swelling goes away at the end of the first month, but there may be residual swelling up to the sixth month. In general, the end result of rhinoplasty is only about one and a half years old. Buffing may be required within the first 24 hours to avoid bleeding, although it is not absolutely necessary in all cases. The gypsum, when used, is removed between the 5th and 7th day after surgery. It is possible to wear glasses on the dressing. Care after removing the plaster so as not to mark the nose. Get back to work in one to two weeks. Weakening activities: 2 to 3 weeks. Sun exposure: 1 to 2 months.

Serious rhinoplasty complications are not frequent. Possible complications include hematoma (accumulation of blood under the skin that may need drainage), infection, and reactions to anesthesia. Skin insensitivity after rhinoplasty may occur, but it is usually temporary. Occasionally greater improvement can be achieved through secondary surgery. Details

There should be no pain after the rhinoplasty. Dressings usually stay for 7 days. The stitches are usually reabsorbed and do not need to be removed. During the first two days after surgery you need to sleep with your head elevated to reduce swelling and the possibility of minor bleeding. A small bleeding is not uncommon in the first two days.
